Sue Huang, Art & Design
“One of the great joys of being in the arts is to be in community with other artists. As an educator, this starts first in the classroom. I am excited to be joining MGSA to work with the next generation of young creatives—imagining new futures and manifesting new worlds through a collaborative process of discovery.” Huang is an assistant professor in Design.
Cheon pyo Lee, Art & Design
“I am committed to offering openness, support, and conversation to the students, because that’s what is needed for students to feel safe to express themselves through their work. I try to recognize their struggle, the silence and double binds of migration or multiple place associations. When I design a lesson, it is important to help them situate themselves within the medium’s lineage so they can build a sense of ownership.” Lee is an assistant professor leading the Foundations area.
Chat Travieso, Art & Design
“The school’s unique interdisciplinary and student-centered approach is the ideal home to translate my transdisciplinary, design-justice-focused practice and scholarship into community engaged courses and programming, and to delve deeper into my research around creating more open and inclusive cities for young people. I look forward to fostering genuine connections and collaborations between students and the broader community, both within and beyond Rutgers, and equip students with the skills and knowledge to be responsible, conscientious artists and designers who can make meaningful impacts in the world.” Travieso is our newest Tepper Family Endowed Chair in Visual Arts.
Ann-Louise Wolf, Theater
“One of the aspects of teaching I love most is to celebrate the constant tiny victories. No student is helpless, incapable, or unworthy, and there is so much joy available in that discovery. I enjoy using play and games in the classroom, which require focus, commitment, precision and risk—along with a healthy dose of the ridiculous. I try my best to nurture curiosity both in the classroom and rehearsal. Above all, I strive to model collaboration and community: as a teacher, a colleague, and a citizen.” Wolf is a Voice and Speech professor.
