Civic Square Building, Room 110
This lecture is presented as part of the Spring 2023 Design Lecture Series, free and open to all.
Focusing on brand, editorial and exhibition design, INDEX is a newly minted design practice that embraces collaboration, research, strategy and accessibility. Based in São Paulo and New York, remote partners Ana Santiago and Asad Pervaiz have supported brands that include Google, Knoll, Museu da Casa Brasileira, Complex Network, Rizzoli, as well as the Day for Night music festival and World Pride NYC 2019.
In conjunction with his partnership as INDEX, Asad has taught and lectured at Rutgers, Yale, Parsons, MICA and is currently a visiting assistant professor at Pratt Institute’s Graduate program in Communications Design. As a found member of the Queering Space artists collective, he worked to promote visibility and encourage creativity for marginalized artists through exhibitions, workshops and programming which included interventions at Yale and Alfred University, a summer camp for youth in Utretcht and an archival excavation at the Schwules Museum in Berlin. He also leads the Restroom Design Workshop that aims to merge design with an understanding of local laws to promote safe space and gender-inclusive advocacy as well as facilitate non-queer folx in dialogue for future remedial design of public spaces. He completed his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and holds an MFA from the Yale School of Art.
