From performing with major orchestras and period ensembles to Broadway, Sara Cyrus has a versatile career as a freelancer. She spent the earlier part of her career holding positions with the Dallas, San Antonio, and South Dakota Symphonies as well as the Dakota Wind Quintet. Ms. Cyrus currently performs with various groups including the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Metropolitan Opera, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, the Knights, and is Principal Horn of the Harrisburg Symphony. She has also played on many Broadway shows, including Les Miserables and the NBC Live TV special – Jesus Christ Superstar. In addition to the modern horn, Ms. Cyrus also performs on the natural horn throughout the United States.
She has recorded on modern horn with several groups, including the Philadelphia and Minnesota Orchestras, Yo Yo Ma and the Knights, and the Orchestra of the League of Composers. On natural horn, she has recorded with the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Apollo’s Fire, Opera Lafayette, and Rebel Baroque Orchestra.
Ms. Cyrus holds degrees from The Juilliard School and Indiana University. Teachers include Philip Farkas, Myron Bloom, Michael Hatfield, Kendall Betts and William Purvis on modern horn and Richard Seraphinoff, Lowell Greer and RJ Kelley on period horns.
