Music alumni Osiris (Ozzy) Molina and Adonis Gonzalez-Matos have teamed up to create Cuba, Alabama, an album of contemporary Cuban music. The title is both a play on an actual town in Alabama and a reflection of the coincidences that brought them together in a most improbable place.
Molina MGSA’96, professor of clarinet at the University of Alabama, and Gonzalez-Matos MGSA’07, professor of piano at Alabama State and a Grammy and Latin Grammy nominee, met at a national competition for high school musicians and quickly discovered their musical, Cuban, and Rutgers connections.
Their CD, on the Blue Griffin label, is expected to drop in December.
