Art & Design MFA alum Peggy Chiang’s show “Wasted” — which consists of a single installation titled “Toss in the asphalt” — was included in The New York Times‘ list of “What to See in N.Y.C. Galleries in February.”

Chiang’s sculpture of the back of a trash truck is made from welded steel, paint, auto lights, and reflective tape.

“The evident care put into this model — its aura of rust and scrapes, the arcs seemingly worn in the paint by the compactor’s action — invites reverence,” writes Travis Diehl.

The installation also includes clumps of brown leaves gathered around the gallery’s heaters and corners and a chunk of pavement with a lit, smoking cigarette made of incense. There is also audio created from a recording of the classical music that Taiwanese garbage trucks play on their routes.

“Wasted” is on view through February 24 at Laurel Gitlen, 465 Grand Street, Suite 4C, in NYC through Feb. 24.
