The department’s studio facilities are located in the Civic Square Building (CSB) in downtown New Brunswick, and in the Livingston Arts Building (LAB) on the Livingston Campus in Piscataway. Classes are offered in large, open studios and critique spaces for painting, drawing, photography, media, sculpture, and design work. The department has multiple computer labs with scanners, and large format printers tailored to the specific requirements of our specialized areas.​

Additional facilities include a newly fabricated MFA Design Studio, renovated performance, critique, and exhibition space; dedicated media corridor; black and white darkrooms; audio and video recording studio and equipment with the latest software programs; a new green-screen room and lighting studio; two wood shops; a metal shop, foundry, and ceramics studio; access to a maker space with new digital fabrication equipment; and a host of exhibition and performance venues.The design area offers a wide variety of display and interaction materials including:

Mason Gross Galleries at Civic Square is a 4,200-square-foot venue in the heart of New Brunswick’s arts district exclusively dedicated to showcasing graduate and undergraduate student work. The space features up to 10 exhibitions each year, all free and open to the public. The gallery acts as a laboratory for new work across media and concentrations, providing a platform for expression and experimentation.

Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays: 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Thursdays and Fridays: 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Saturdays: 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Note: Admission to Mason Gross Galleries is free and open to the public. Please ring intercom bell at front entrance of building (on the Livingston Avenue side) or use Rutgers swipe card for gallery entry at the Civic Square Building.

Satellite building for the Department of Art & Design housing the department’s sculpture and ceramic facilities in a setting that includes ample workshop, studio, and exhibition space, as well as a kiln and outdoor workspace to serve the particular needs of the three-dimensional arts. Includes workshops for wood, metal, and ceramics, as well as an outdoor sculpture garden.
