Scarlet Arts Rx
Discover the transformative power of the arts through a FREE arts and well-being program for all Rutgers–New Brunswick students called Scarlet Arts Rx!
Did you know that arts engagement is related to improvements in:
- Positive mood (less anxiety/stress)
- Sleep quality (linked to better academic performance)
- Social connections
- Self-confidence
- Creative thinking skills, and more?
Students from every major can benefit. You don’t need to be an artist!

What will I get?
- Free Mason Gross School of the Arts (MGSA) box office tickets for theater, dance, and music performances while supplies last. You can bring RU-NB friends with you for free.
- Recommendations for free arts activities/events on and near campus that we think you may enjoy.
- When you fill out a 1-minute feedback survey after each RU-NB arts activity/event you attend, you’ll be entered into a monthly drawing for a chance to win a $50 gift card.
- Opportunities to connect socially and meet new people.
- Higher self-awareness about how the arts affect your well-being.
This program was created by MGSA and the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP) and funded by the RU-NB Chancellor’s Office. It is not arts therapy and doesn’t replace therapy.

What can the arts do for you?
Scarlet Arts Rx is…”genuinely the love of my life right now. I’m essentially out from 8 in the morning to 9 at night all day every day, which has been miserable for me.It’s not a stretch to say that the painting/drawing events l’ve been going to are all that’s keeping me from crashing out. Being able to put work aside and just create art is such a de-stresser for me. It makes me realize that there is a beautiful world beyond my worries.”—E., Rutgers-New Brunswick student
