CANCELLED – Design Lecture: Lia Petronio
Lia Petronio grew up in northern New Jersey where she earned a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from Rutgers University, with a concentration in Drawing and Design. After graduating, she moved to Boston for a Master’s in Fine Arts in Information Design and Visualization at Northeastern University. Lia worked in Northeastern’s Communications Department creating visualizations for data-driven news stories to promote university research and taught courses on design and web-development. A few years later, with a desire to get closer to data and an interest in disease biology, she joined the Broad Institute as a data visualization engineer, where she designs and develops visualization tools and resources for exploring and explaining genomic research. Her work currently focuses on a data portal for drug compound screening results in the context of cancer. Lia is passionate about finding new ways to visualize complex data by leveraging visual perception and math. In her free time, Lia makes collages, videos, and other art, goes for long walks, rides her OneWheel, and skateboards.
