Guest Artist Masterclass with Hiram Diaz, Euphonium
Observe a masterclass with Hiram Diaz, a euphoniumist, trombonist, vocalist, and music educator in the Washington, D.C., area. A second-generation Cuban-American, he grew up in Miami, Florida, surrounded by the Latin-American diaspora and its incredible contributions to the arts. Throughout Diaz’s education, he competed in several international euphonium competitions, including winning the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference Artist Euphonium Competition, placing second at the Leonard Falcone International Artist Euphonium Competition, and receiving an honorable mention at the first international Concours de Tuba Tours, in Tours, France. Hiram’s primary teachers include Dr. Brian Bowman, Tim Northcut, Jay Bertolet and Lee Rogers.
As a euphoniumist Diaz has played solo and recital performances throughout the United States and abroad. He has been a featured soloist at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, at various International Tuba and Euphonium Conferences, and recently with “The President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band on their National Concert Tour. He performs regularly as guest euphonium, trombone, or bass trumpet with such groups as the Baltimore Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony, and National Symphony Orchestra. Diaz is also an active chamber musician as a member and returning guest with such groups as High Bridge Brass, Washington Symphonic Brass, Dominion Brass Quartet, and the American Tuba Quartet. Diaz proudly serves as a euphoniumist in “The President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band in Washington, D.C., a position he has held since 2012.Free
